Footpath work costing £32,500 is set to start outside Lavant Primary School from Monday (August 18).
A West Sussex County Council spokesman said the road outside the school would be closed and a diversion route would be signposted.
"The work is a part of the 'safer routes to school scheme'," he added. "It will include resurfacing the footpath on
the northern side of the road, a new crossing point including dropped kerbs and bollards, and installing paving that will aid the visually-impaired."
A school safety zone was also being built, consisting of new illuminated 20mph advisory signs, 'slow' road markings, and coloured surfacing.
Cllr Derek Whittington, the county cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said: "We have decided to do the work during the school summer holidays to avoid causing major disruption to the area, when there is congestion at drop-off and collection times for the children."
The scheme is scheduled to last up to three weeks. Working times are Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Occasionally, work will be done on Saturdays, from 8am to 1pm.
