Burgess Hill man arrested after domestic incident followed by house fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage following a house fire in Burgess Hill on Wednesday evening (May 27).

Sussex Police said officers were called to a domestic incident in Firtoft Close at 8.52pm.

The alleged victims of the incident had gone to a neighbouring property, said police.

Officers were interviewing them at the neighbouring property when they saw smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters were called and extinguished a number of fires that had caused extensive damage inside.

A short time later, a 27-year-old man from Burgess Hill was arrested nearby.

He was questioned and later bailed to return on July 23.
