A23 roadworks due to be completed this week

ROAD works which have caused delays on the A23 at Patcham are due to finish at the end of this week, the Highways Agency says, weather permitting.

The Patcham Interchange Signing Improvements have been in progress for several weeks and continue this week.

The work includes resurfacing the road and altering the existing signs and road markings on the A23/A27 Patcham Interchange near Brighton.

The work will take place between 8pm and 6am each night from Monday (today) to Friday but is now expected to be complete by the end of the week.

The various lane closures in place through the junction will continue until work finishes. At times there have been closures of access from Mill Road Roundabout and the A27 bridge for a maximum of one night each. During these times short fully signed diversion routes were put in place.

Other work scheme updates for the South East have been issued by the Highways Agency today as follows:

A27 Causeway Roundabout to Crossbush Interchange Resurfacing

Resurfacing work on the A27 between Causeway Roundabout and Crossbush Interchange continues this week and is due to be completed by Tuesday 14 February. It will be carried out between 8pm and 6am each night.

Up to Tuesday 14 February there will be lane closures, temporary traffic lights and a 40mph speed limit on the A27 with road users escorted past the work site at 10mph.

As part of this section of work, until Friday 10 February, there will be no access to or from Queen Street onto the Causeway roundabout. Road users will need to follow a short local diversion route via Ford Road roundabout.

A26 Quarry Hill

An 18-tonne weight restriction is in place on the northbound A26 Quarry Hill Viaduct. The viaduct passes over the A21 and heads into Tonbridge from Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

The restriction is a precautionary measure after routine inspections of the bridge identified that strengthening work may be needed in the future. The weight restriction will protect the integrity of the bridge while this is investigated further.

All vehicles over 18 tonnes will be required to follow a short diversion via the A21 northbound to Morleys Interchange, where they will be directed to return on the southbound carriageway and enter Tonbridge using the southbound exit slip road at Vauxhall Lane Interchange. Bus operators and emergency services vehicles are still able to use the route.

A21 Embankment Repair

Work is being carried out this week to strengthen an embankment on the A21 near Tonbridge in Kent. There are no restrictions on the A21, but parking has been suspended on sections of two local roads near Hildenborough – the B2027 and Lower Street.

Drivers travelling coastbound will be diverted at the Whitfield Roundabout to join the A256 towards Dover. They will then continue along the A256 to its junction with the A20 where they can will turn left to continue with their journeys.

Drivers heading for the Londonbound A2 will follow the same diversion route in the opposite direction.

The gantry work will be completed during a single overnight closure which will be scheduled after the resurfacing work has been complete.

A21 Upper Haysden Lane Concrete Repairs

Concrete repairs continue this week on the Upper Haysden Lane bridge under the A21 near Tonbridge, Kent between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day. Work is expected to be complete on Friday 10 February. There will be a single lane closure on the road underneath the A21 with road users being controlled past the work by temporary traffic lights.

A20 Roundhill Tunnel Routine Maintenance Closure

Routine maintenance will be carried out in the A20 Roundhill Tunnel this week. Work will start on the westbound carriageway today and tomorrow, Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 February, and will move to the eastbound carriageway on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 February.

The tunnel will be closed to traffic in the direction of the work between 8pm and 6am each night., with traffic diverted via the A259 and A260.
