Jo Dennis, owner of jojo Boutique in Cuckfield has won the Sussex Fashion Ambassador Award from independent judges of The Sussex Fashion Awards.

Jo has introduced British brands to her shop, in particular designers from Sussex, and says she feels strongly about showcasing and supporting new and local designers.

Jo said: “For these new designers, getting an opportunity to showcase their collections and to get such a positive reaction from our customers is hugely appreciated by them and very rewarding for all of us; a few of the brands are being recognised nationally and it is so great to be part of their success – I am thrilled to be Sussex Fashion Ambassador for 2012.”

The judges also commended Jo on the importance she gives to customers’ feedback.

ITN newsreader Alistair Stewart OBE, chose his favourite example from customer, Carolyn Mitchel, who said: “As a middle-aged woman, this is a shopping experience to be enjoyed. Jojo boutique is a delightful shop with an interior to match, displaying a very good mix of design and reasonable prices.

“However, the main joy is in not being pounced upon the moment you enter, no “is there anything in particular you are looking for today?” is ever uttered, just good old fashioned, honest help and advice when asked.”

Carolyn said individually written labels on garments suggested what particular shape they most suited and what else might match.

She added: “This often results in trying on something that I would otherwise have disregarded, wrongly, it has to be said! With jojo’s commitment to fair trade, and support of the hardworking ethos of up and coming designers, this is a boutique that even Mary Portas would be proud of.”
