Mid Sussex has been ranked in the top ten of the 50 most desirable rural areas to live in the country.
No other district in West or East Sussex made the top 50 of the Halifax survey which focused on the quality of life people said they enjoyed enjoy in rural areas.
Uttlesford near Stanstead Airport topped the list while just across the county border in Surrey Waverley came fourth.
Mid Sussex’s achievement has been welcomed by the leader of Mid Sussex District Council Garry Wall.
He said: “It’s always nice to be recognised in surveys like this but the results simply confirm what local people already know - that Mid Sussex is an excellent place to live.
“We are blessed in this beautiful district with low crime rates, high levels of employment and excellent public green spaces.
“We play our part by keeping the district clean and tidy, investing in new public facilities and protecting the unique character of our area.
“We also work closely with the local business community to create an environment that supports economic growth.”
Mr Wall added: “There are so many different factors that make Mid Sussex such a desirable place to live that it is easy to overlook the positive impact made by local people.
“We have some wonderful local communities in our district and the support our residents provide for each other plays a big part in making Mid Sussex such a special place to live.”
