Meat is back on the shopping list for those visiting The Orchards shopping centre in Haywards Heath from today.
Peter Bradley started butchering at the tender age of six at his father’s shop in Brighton.
More than half a century later, at the age of 63, he is opening a new butchers in Haywards Heath today.
P&P Family Butchers will champion Sussex lamb and pork, and British beef, as well as a selection cheeses and delicatessen products.
The Orchards is familiar territory for him as he previously worked for anther butchers in the shopping centre, and more recently managed a fruit and veg store on the parade.
“I was semi-retired for two years, “ Peter told the Middy, “but then I got bored - so I am going back to butchery which is what I know best.”
He has taken on a trainee butcher, Joe Illingsworth, and the shop will create another couple of jobs on the delicatessen.
“We hope people will come and support us, and we want to give a good service.
“We aim to give quality meat, at a fair price.”
The new shop officially opens at 12.30 today, and thereafter will sell its produce six days a week.
