Central Sussex College celebrates ‘excellent’ A-level results

Central Sussex College is celebrating yet a ‘excellent’ year for A-level results today (August 14) as 72% of students achieved A*-C grades.

The overall pass rate of 99%, surpassing this year’s national average of 98%, whilst 30 subjects achieved a 100% pass rate.

17 students achieved three or more A* and A grades, and they will now be moving on to top UK Universities including, Oxford, Imperial College London, Warwick and University College London.

Among this year’s high achievers was Alice Thorpe from Cuckfield who achieved A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics.

She said: “I’m very pleased, it’s so relieving, it’s great to know I’ve finally got a place at Imperial. I didn’t expect to get all A*s, I only needed two.”

Alice is planning on studying Physics at Imperial College London.

“I don’t really know what I want to do in the future but I’m just going to enjoy physics for now,” she added.

Tonight Alice is going out for a meal with her parents to celebrate.

Andrew Pearcy from Haywards Heath achieved A*s in Maths and Further Maths, an A in Physics, a B in English Literature and a Distinction 2 in his Cambridge Pre-U.

He has been accepted to study Engineering at the highly esteemed Virginia Tech in America.

Andrew left for the US less than 24 hours after collecting his results.

Another high-flyer was Helen Burridge, also from Haywards Heath.

Helen was overwhelmed when she opened her results, achieving A*s in Chemistry and Psychology and As in Biology and Maths, allowing her to go on to Oxford University to study Experimental Psychology.

Helen, who plans to celebrate with family before heading out later with friends said: “I’m so surprised and proud of my results! My mother screamed down the phone when I told her the good news!”

Emma Fisher achieved two As in English Language and Business Studies and a C in Law.

She was told by her teacher that she had received the highest mark in the year for her English Language exam.

She has now accepted her offer of a place at Kingston University where she will do a joint Honours degree in Law and Business Studies.

Vice Principal Richard Hailstone was delighted with the students’ achievements.

He said: “Results this year are excellent, both in terms of overall success and individual performances from some of the fantastic students here at Central Sussex College. We’re extremely proud of their achievements and wish them every success in the future.”
