An application to build a house on a play meadow will be considered at a committee tonight (April 30).

The plan to build on a meadow used by children near Courtmead Road, Cuckfield is recommended for approval to Mid Sussex District Council’s Planning Committee.

The meeting will take place at Clair Hall, Perrymount Road, Haywards Heath at 7pm.

Permission was granted by Mid Sussex District Council (MSDC) in December to build one large dwelling on the play meadow.

Earlier in the year a community campaign raised £100,000 to buy the field, but it was rejected as Mid Sussex District Council said it was only 11 per cent of the market value.

The original application has been dropped, but a new application has been submitted for the same plot of land.

Nearby residents have campaigned for ‘years’ to protect the meadow, and plan to take the case to judicial review if permission is granted tonight.
