Gerald and Christine Dray, of Sandy Vale in Haywards Heath are on the hunt for the ring, believed to have fallen off Gerald’s finger three weeks ago when carrying a 24-pack of loo roll in Haywards Heath town centre.

The pair, who are both retired, have been married for 48 years.

Their daughter, Luca Dray, 45, an animal-pharmacognosist who lives in Portslade, is calling for the public’s help.

She said: “As you can imagine my parents are gutted. This ring was a replacement for his original one, which broke – it is upsetting as he now can’t wear a wedding ring.

“He isn’t sure where he lost it, but believes it was near Iceland and the carpark behind Barclays.

“Carrying the loo roll by the plastic handle, he thinks it may have dug in behind the ring and caused it to fall off, when he let go, as it was a cold day, so his fingers would have shrunk.

“They have searched the area with a torch, the night they realised it was lost. Even a friend of theirs has used a metal detector to check if he dropped it in his garden, but nothing was found.

“He has searched around areas that he regularly goes to as well, which has been a bit of trek, as he has parkinsons, but still no luck.”
