Captain Josh Simpson is expected to be back from a hamstring injury which ruled him out of last weekend’s trip to Coventry and Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory against Luton Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

He has only played in two matches so far this campaign having injured his ankle on the opening day of the season.

Gregory said: “Josh could feel his hamstring pulling a bit and I didn’t want to risk anything.

“He is receiving treatment daily. There is a good chance he can be back for Saturday. I am sure he will be keen to play against his old team!”

Crawley have scored four goals in their last two league games which resulted in a 2-0 win against Yeovil and a 2-2 draw from being 2-0 down away to Coventry City.

Four new signings have been made since their depressing 4-0 defeat at home to Rochdale four weeks ago.

Gregory said: “The recent additions have made a big improvement to us. Increased experience showed in the way we played in the last two games, during which we have scored twice in a game for the first time except against Cambridge United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.”

Although Crawley will be missing both Joe Walsh and Gwion Edwards who are involved with the senior Wales squad for their Euro qualifiers, Peterborough also have Gabriel Zakuani who is away with DR Congo. Northern Ireland U21 international Kenny McEvoy is available for Saturday.

Gregory is looking for another win against the Posh to add to the two gained last season.

He said: “Peterborough always try to win football matches and last season they didn’t draw many matches.

“So far this season they have only drawn two out of 11 and have won five. They are always encouraged to play attacking football.

“We have won our last two home matches which has been pleasing. We have only lost one of the last five. We’ll be looking for another win, but this game represents a big challenge.

“Saturday was the first time we have come back from behind and the players showed a lot of spirit.

“In the end we were probably a bit disappointed we didn’t get a good win.”
