Crawley Town youngsters narrowly beat Three Bridges

Crawley Town gained a narrow 2-1 victory over their Non-League neighbours Three Bridges in a game which did not have a lot to choose between the sides.

Reds fielded a number of trialists and only six contracted players who all started.

The trialists included former Fulham striker Charles Banya amd ex-Wickham Wanderers defender Anthony Stewart.

Also among their ranks was former Bridges player Kenny Halton, who played in central defence.

Bridges featured a couple of experienced ex-Reds stars Nigel Brake, who played in central defence rather than left back and striker Allan Tait.

Bobson Bawling had the first attempt on the half hour when he went on a run from right back and launched a long-range shot which went straight at keeper Kieron Thorp.

Steve Burford then showed a good turn of pace before shooting narrowly wide for Reds before at the other end, Lee Carney put Tait through for what looked to be certain goal only for his shot to hit the post.

Crawley started the second half sharply and Banya had a good attempt which was saved by Thorp.

The Reds took the lead in the 50th minute with a lovely goal as Connor Essam shwoing fine skills to set up Stewart who volleyed home.

The impressive Stewart fired a free-kick on target which Thorp caught.

Bridges equalised on 72 minutes when Carney’s cross opened up an opportunity for Tait who finished well.

The rain started to fall and most spectators ran for cover as both sides went on the atack in the last few minutes in search of a winner.

Tait headed a chance over the bar before Emmett O’Connor crossed for Burford to net the winner with two minutes to go.
