Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was arrested following a racial attack in Uckfield.

Sussex Police was called to a man abusing and insulting a 46-year-old woman in Victoria Pleasure Grounds, New Town. She was harassed by a stranger as she walked to her car and as she drove away between 6pm and 6.30pm on Sunday (May 29), said police.

PC Dave Brown said: “This was a most distressing experience for the woman and we want to hear from anyone else who saw what happened or saw this man shouting in the park.”

A police spokesman said a 57-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until June 13.

Any witness or anyone with information was asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serial 1369 of 29/05. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-org.uk)
