Overnight burglaries at two Uckfield charity shops in early November last year left both organisations – Age UK and Sense – badly hit in the run-up to Christmas.
Appalled that well-intentioned organisations should have suffered at the hands of criminals, police officer Sergeant Simon Kind lived up to his name by seeking donations from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF) to help offset their losses.
PPAF is made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.
Each of the two charity shops was granted £250.
Sergeant Kind recently went along in person to present cheques to delighted staff at both shops.
