Two boys, thought to be 13 to 14-years-old, were seen in the area of an arson attack in Bolnore Village, Haywards Heath, last Saturday, say police.

Police confirmed they wish to speak with the youths in connection with the fire and criminal damage at the Crest Nicholson site.

They are described as white, of slim build, one in a red-brown hooded top and the other in a dark blue or black jumper.

A police spokesperson said: “A quantity of building materials had been set alight and damage caused to a JCB digger on the site.”

West Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed the fire at the building site compound off Chandlers Field Drive had been ‘deliberately ignited’.

Crews were called just after 7pm and two fire engines and a water carrier attended the new-build estate to discover a quantity of building materials alight.

However, a spokesperson for the developers Crest Nicholson, which is building new properties in the vicinity, implied it was not a serious incident.

“It was a very small fire caused by arson,” they said.

“The ground workers compound had some of the materials set alight resulting in some plastic drainage pipes etc being destroyed.

“The fire was nowhere near any houses,” they added.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about it is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1250 of 12/04.
