Exceptional teaching has helped a pre-school secure its third ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating in a row.
Staff at Cuckfield Pre-school, in London Lane, said they were delighted after learning they were still top of the class with the government’s inspection team.
Manager Sarah Paterson said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our staff team, committee and children. We have worked tirelessly to ensure our children continue to receive outstanding care and education and are ecstatic that this has been recognised by Ofsted for a third time in a row.”
In her report, inspector Rebecca Khabbazi described Sarah and her team as “excellent role models” to the children, which saw the youngsters in turn behaving “extremely well”.
Ms Khabbazi found the children were “extremely well prepared” for their step up to primary school, and added: “Children make excellent progress from their starting points. They are highly independent and very motivated to learn.”
She praised the way staff guided and supported the children while allowing them to explore their own ideas. As an example, she described watching youngsters work out how to use water to make a stick move down some guttering.
The pre-school’s first ‘outstanding’ rating came in 2007 and was followed by a second in 2010.
Becca Chatterton, chairman of the playgroup committee, congratulated Sarah and her team, saying they “truly deserves this recognition for the hard work”. She added: “Needless to say we are all delighted with the recent Ofsted inspection.
“I feel proud and privileged to have been involved with the pre-school during this momentous period.”
