Successful Better Roads programme ahead of schedule

The county council has been repairing and preparing the roads all summer to make them safe for the winter weather ahead.

The work for the Better Roads programme was scheduled to last for two years.

Because the work so far has been completed ahead of schedule, the County Council has decided to accelerate the programme.

County council cabinet member for highways and transport, Pieter Montyn said: “We made good use of the summer weather and within four months half the streets due to be treated in the Better Roads programme have been done.

“We have been able to draw down £1.5m from next year’s budget so we can do work originally planned for 2015 now.

“This means we can get 10 per cent of next year’s programme done a year early.”

All dates are subject to change due to weather conditions and to allow contractor Balfour Beatty the flexibility to respond to any unforeseen circumstances.

For the most up-to-date information, check the yellow notice boards located in streets where work is due to take place.

This will tell you the exact date work is due to start.
