Mid Sussex District Council has been given the go-ahead to create 30-35 new business starter units in Haywards Heath, after obtaining planning permission for a multi-million pound scheme.
On Thursday April 17, the Mid Sussex District Council planning committee unanimously approved plans for new office, studio and workshop space on the site of the former council waste depot at the Bridge Road Industrial Estate.
Building work can now get underway and it is anticipated that the new start-up units will be completed and available to local businesses by the end of the year.
The new business starter units will support the development of new and small businesses in Mid Sussex, providing a timely boost for the local economy and giving emerging small businesses a simple and affordable way to secure their first commercial base.
Offices, studios and workshops will be equipped with the latest technology and high speed broadband, so each unit will be ready for local businesses to move in and start trading.
Companies will have self-contained business premises and access to a shared reception, breakout area, support and meeting facilities. The facility offers local businesses the opportunity to utilise a high quality, flexible space that provides excellent opportunities for networking and business development.
The starter unit project is a joint initiative between Mid Sussex District Council and West Sussex County Council.
The District Council is providing £1.27 million and the County Council is providing £600,000 from their Kick Start programme, a scheme that was set up in 2011 to help unlock the potential of the local economy.
The business centre will be managed by Basepoint, a not for profit charitable trust.
