Organisers are under starter’s orders for this year’s Bolney Pram Race with mechanics, daredevil drivers and costume makers all turning their minds to the designs of their 2013 dream machines.

The annual event has attracted more than 1,000 people to the small village of Bolney, just off the A23, as people from all walks of life take a day off from the troubles of the world and have serious fun with their home-made contraptions, some of which have been known to go remarkably fast.

The 2013 race will be staged in just eight weeks’ time on Easter Monday, April 1. Last year it raised a staggering £10,425 that was split between two charities: Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice and SERV - Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers - the night riders who deliver urgent, out-of-hours blood and consignments to NHS hospitals in Sussex and Hampshire.

This year the fund-raising from the day will again go to SERV as well as Dreamflight, which takes children with life-threatening illness to Disney in America for a week accompanied by carers, nurses and doctors.

More information about the race, how to enter or to be a sponsor can be found on the website at: on Facebook, or from Emma at the Eight Bells in Bolney on 01444 881396.
