A rapidly expanding business membership group has appointed a chief executive to steer it from a public sector culture to a more commercial
operation focused on higher productivity and greater profit generation.
Sussex Enterprise is the accredited Chamber of Commerce for Sussex, serving businesses large and small across both East and West Sussex and
the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove.
It has now appointed Ana Christie, who lives in Haywards Heath and will be based in Burgess Hill, as its new chief executive.
Chairman of Sussex Enterprise Nick Handley said: “Ana is an inspirational leader who has substantial business experience in both the UK and internationally and we are delighted to confirm her appointment.
“Ana’s role will be to increase the range of services we offer to our members, to local authorities and to the local enterprise partnerships in East and West Sussex.”
Ana began her career in aviation and worked in hospitality before running the London Aquarium.
Travelling to Asia, she was executive vice president at a human resources consultancy in the Philippines before working for the British Deputy High Commission in Chennai.
On her return to Britain, Ana worked in West Sussex for a major supplier to the health sector.
She said: “I am really excited about my new role and looking forward to working with individuals and organisations for the benefit of Sussex Enterprise member businesses as well as the wider Sussex economy.
“By building even stronger relationships, it is important that Sussex Enterprise provides quality, value for money and an exceptional service
for all its members, new commercial businesses and joint partnerships.
“I am really honoured to be joining an accredited chamber and excited by the opportunities and challenges ahead.”
Based in Burgess Hill, but with a remit to cover the whole of East and West Sussex, Ana will provide clear strategic direction to develop joint ventures and increase turnover and profitability.
Consisting of businesses of all sizes and from all localities within Sussex and as part of the British Chambers of Commerce network , which was recently voted a top business brand, Sussex Enterprise members will be able to take advantage of new initiatives which will be announced shortly.
Commenting on a highly profitable year, Nick Handley added: “This is a sign of businesses returning to form and evidence of Sussex Enterprise providing excellent value and new services for its growing membership”.
