One-to-one cuddling sessions are being offered as a means to deal with the pressure of modern life.
Helen Thatcher and Christine Harris, who have been working in the holistic health industry for more than 20 years, came across the phenomenon of Cuddle Therapy while it was taking the USA by storm.
Realising that many of their clients in the UK had feelings of loneliness, stress from being overwhelmed with the pressures of life, and lacked physical contact, they came up with their own version of Cuddle Therapy called Holding for Healing.
“Holding for Healing is a revolutionary, professional one-to-one cuddling session, a non-sexual, physical touch therapy that includes embracing, cuddling and hugs,” said a statement from the pair.
“A technique created to nurture and nourish the client on all levels; physical, emotional and spiritual.
“Increasingly scientific research indicates that without physical touch human beings cannot thrive and achieve their full potential. The chemical reaction in the brain when engaged in a hug produces serotonin and oxytocin – feel good chemicals that contribute to an overall sense of well-being.”
Currently, Helen and Christine are offering Holding for Healing at: The Yoga Garden, Bothy, Knepp Castle, Pound Lane, Shipley; The Koorana Centre, Street Lane, Ardingly, and The Grey Door Therapy Clinic, 36 Blatchington Road, Hove. They plan to extend into London by the end of the year.
A testimonial from a regular client describes her experience as: “Gentle, thoughtful and responsive to my needs throughout. I feel completely held in a physical, but also in a deeper, emotional way. A wonderful experience that leaves me feeling good for some time afterwards.”
