Flu warning - are you protected?
THOUSANDS of vulnerable people in Sussex are still not protected against flu this winter.
Less than 45 per cent of the people who are ‘at risk’ of developing serious complications if they catch flu this winter have taken the opportunity to have the free seasonal flu vaccine in West Sussex.
More than 100,000 people with long term conditions across Sussex are routinely offered the seasonal flu vaccine each year to protect themselves from becoming very ill from flu.
The take-up is better for eligible people aged 65 and over. Just under 70 per cent have been vaccinated. Every year, everyone aged 65 and over is routinely offered the jab, as are younger people with long-term conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, multiple sclerosis, and serious kidney or liver disease.
Pregnant women and carers are also being offered the jab for free to protect themselves and their loved ones.
It is completely safe and the jab will not give you the flu.
