Two hundred and fifty students gathered in Burgess Hill for an event dedicated to reading last week.

Pupils from Oakmeeds Community College, London Meed, Manor Field, Sheddingdean, Birchwood Grove, Southway, The Gattons, St Wilfrids and Woodlands Meed met in St John’s Park for a reading session last Thursday.

Students were encouraged to ‘drop everything and read’ during a town-wide campaign dedicated to get kids reading from June 9 to 13.

They took blankets and their favourite books to the park, sat down and read together.

Schools around Burgess Hill took part in Get Caught Reading week and enjoyed a number of activities and events designed to encourage reading.

Oakmeeds Community College enjoyed visits from actor, director and teacher Tim Rowland, and poet, Ash Dickinson, who both performed workshops with students.
