Drivers were forced to negotiate a ‘lethal’ traffic light failure at a major A24 crossroads yesterday (Tuesday March 1).
West Sussex Highways said a power supply failure at about 3.25pm cut off power to the traffic lights at the Buck Barn crossroads.
A spokesman for West Sussex County Council confirmed all lights had been affected at the junction.
The spokesman said: “We are working to get power restored as quickly as possible.
“We are asking drivers to take care when driving through the area.”
UK Power Networks engineers, who are responsible for supplying electricity in the area, attended the scene.
Engineers restored power at about 5.40pm, after more than two hours.
On Twitter The classic male said: “All the traffic lights are down at the McDonald’s junction, A272. It is lethal.”
Works to improve the lights at the crossing were due to begin on Monday (February 29).
The improvements are scheduled to last 11 weeks and drivers have been told to expect long delays.
