On 5 May 2016 you will recall voting (or not) for the election of a Police & Crime Commissioner. Prior to this date I read in The Middy a glowing report from Nicholas Soames (sorry - Sir Nicholas) in which he says “She has recently announced the recruitment of up to 100 new police officers in Sussex”. However I seem to remember that there were Government orders to reduce the number of PC’s to achieve funding cuts.

Being inquisitive, I wrote to the Chief Constable, Giles York QPM on 22 April 2016 concerning the PCC’s announcement and asking one simple question - “Is this fact or fiction?” - thinking, if anyone should know, it is the Chief Constable.

I receive the following reply: “Thank you for your letter dated 22 April 2016. As you have raised a query, this has been forwarded to us to delegate to the most appropriate person.” The plot thickens. If the Chief Constable doesn’t know, who does? The letter went on to say “You will receive a response ... as soon as the matter has been looked into further...” So I sent an e-mail on 30 April to enquire what was going on. The reply seems to imply they don’t know but it will take 21 days to find out.

It is now 23 June 2016 and still the 100 PCs are missing.
