Residents of Mid Sussex are being encouraged to add extra security to their homes by installing low-cost window alarms.

The Mid Sussex Community Safety Partnership wants to help keep communities safe and is offering people the chance to buy window alarms for just £2 each.

“Mid Sussex is a low crime area but it is still important to take precautions and to do everything we can to make our homes safe and secure,” said Cllr Christopher Snowling, cabinet member for health and community.

The alarms use a vibration sensor, and if someone tries to force or break the window, a 110 decibel alarm will sound to shock and deter an intruder. As well as the loud alarm, a bright red warning sign on the alarm provides a visual deterrent.

The window alarms can be purchased from local police stations in The Brow, in Burgess Hill, which is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm; and in Bolnore Road, Haywards Heath, which is open Monday to Friday from 10am until 2pm and 3pm to 6pm. Payments should be made in cash in the correct money. For more information contact the Mid Sussex District Council Community Safety Team on 01444 477550.
