40 mph average speed section on the A23 due to road improvements

The Highways Agency has released an updated list of roadworks both new and ongoing for this week (Monday, January 7 until Sunday, January 13).

- A23 Handcross to Warninglid widening

Main construction work on this major improvement scheme, which will make journeys on the A23 safer and more reliable, continues this week, with a reduced 40mph speed limit and narrow lanes in place 24 hours a day.

The northbound exit and entry slip roads are currently closed at Warninglid until mid-March 2013 to allow a new roundabout to be constructed. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion to the next junction.

- A23 Drainage Improvements

Drainage improvement work on the A23 in West Sussex – between the B2116 bridge near Hurstpierpoint and Brighton - will be carried out from Monday, January 7.

The work will be carried out using overnight lane closures on the A23 with a 50mph speed limit in place. There will be some overnight slip road closures at the Dale Hill southbound entry slip road and at the South Downs Way northbound entry slip road. When these closures are in place, road users will follow short, fully signed diversion routes via the A23 to a nearby alternative junction.

Work will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, Monday to Friday, and is expected to be complete by the end of March, weather permitting.
