Appeal for information after man punched in Haywards Heath
British Transport Police (BTP) is investigating an assault on a train at Haywards Heath on Thursday, 14 February, which left the victim with bruising to his face.
Officers have released an image of a man they believe has key information about what took place.
PC Peter Cooke, leading the investigation, explained: “The victim, a 48-year-old man from Haywards Heath, boarded the 7.31am service to London Bridge and went to sit down.
“A short while after the train left Haywards Heath, he accidentally brushed against the man sitting in the seat next to him as he took his own seat.
“The man then stood up and verbally abused the victim, before punching him to the side of his face, leaving him bruised.
“He then collected his belongings and walked away.”
Officers have studied CCTV footage from on board the train and have since identified a man they would like to speak to as part of their enquiries.
PC Cooke added: “The victim’s contact with the man was completely accidental, and he had not intended to harm him in any way.
“This happened at rush-hour and I’m sure there are people on the train who saw what took place and could help us with our enquiries“
If you recognise the man pictured, or have any information about the incident, then please get in touch.”
