Ardingly prepares for game fair
FOLLOWING the success of the South of England Show, preparations are well underway for the Agricultural Society's next big event.
More than 81,000 people attended last month's flagship show and organisers hope many will return for the Autumn Show & Game Fair which takes place at the South of England Centre, Ardingly, near Haywards Heath, October 4-5.
The event is an opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside at harvest time, with country sports, crafts, falconry, a dog agility show, vintage machinery, mouth-watering local food and drink, stunning displays of seasonal flowers and vegetables, a fair and a wealth of trade stands for relaxed shopping.
Firsts for this year include plans for an open-air harvest festival celebration, a tribute to Britain's Armed Forces with the Band of the Royal Yeomanry, and a horse-drawn Chariots of Fire display in the main arena.
Dan Kerwood – whose daughter Charlotte is competing at the Beijing Olympics and won a shooting gold in the Commonwealth Games – will be organising a clay pigeon shooting competition.
The show is open from 9am to 5pm each day. Tickets cost 6 for adults, 5 for students and senior citizens, 3 for children under 16 and 15 for a family ticket (two adults and two children). For further information visit the website www.seas.org.uk or call 01444 892700.
