The 3rd Burgess Hill Boys Brigade celebrated 25 years since forming with performances and awards at the annual Parents and Friends Evening.

The event held on 10 May at Saints United Reformed Church at Junction Road, Burgess Hill, featured a presentation of the Queen’s Badge to Sergeant Alex Ward and Staff Sergeant Callum Dean, the highest awards a young man can achieve in his Boys Brigade career.

The short opening service was led by company chaplain and church minister Rev Robert Bushby with the opening hymn music being played by boys and staff on piano and five guitars.

All three sections displayed some of the activities undertaken throughout the year with Anchors showing off their agility on the floor mats, Juniors displaying sign language and the Company Section giving a display which for the second consecutive year won them the Brighton, Hove and District Battalion Squad Drill Medal.

Awards were presented to the boys and young men by special guest Alan Breslin and his wife Wendy who visited from the 14th Brighton Company.

They included achievement awards, service badges ranging from one to thirteen years, attendance, scripture reading, table tennis, air hockey and pool trophies.

No charge was made for the evening, which included a buffet, but a collection bucket raised £147.20 towards the Holkham Hut, a new storage facility for the battalion camp equipment based at Glynde amongst the Sussex Downs.

New members of all age groups can join the 3rd Burgess Hill company in early September.

Anchors and Juniors meet every Wednesday during term time from 6.15-7.30pm.

Company Section meets every Friday during term time from 7.30-9.30pm, both in the church hall at the rear of the United Reformed Church.
