Bid to build retail park
Hickstead land owner Mentin Ltd has applied to have two agricultural planning conditions removed in an attempt to develop proposals for a retail park.
The site, off the roundabout leading out onto the A23, was on the original list for potential waste sites in West Sussex.
The land owner withdrew the site and his agent has told the Middy that he hopes to build a non-food retail park with the possible inclusion of a multiplex cinema.
The land has extant planning permission for an agricultural market and retail use but the land-owner wants to remove the agricultural conditions.
When planning permission was granted originally on the land it was for a replacement Haywards Heath agricultural market with associated retail use.
