Blowing a gale at South Downs Nurseries
A picture showing the damaged roof
A GARDEN centre was forced to close its coffee shop after part of the roof blew off in strong winds.
South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks closed its Olive Tree Cafe for 24-hours to allow emergency repairs to be made.
Branch Manager Mark Hillyard said: “The left hand side of the roof blew away. It was blowing a gale inside and out but there were no injuries at all and one couple continued eating their sandwiches!
“We had to close the cafe but we were able to re-open the next day at 2pm after re-building the roof.”
Mark sent us a picture of the damage. He thanked customers for their understanding and also thanked the team of people who repaired the roof so quickly.
The incident happened on Tuesday, January 2. The busy nursery and tourist attraction is part of the Tates of Sussex Garden Centre group.
