Bogus callers target Mid Sussex villages

POLICE are warning vulnerable residents to be wary of cold callers or people who claim to know them.

In the last two weeks, bogus callers have made attempts to enter homes in Ardingly, Balcombe and Albourne.

The conmen tried to convince the elderly residents to let them in and attempted to steal money.

Inspector Ed Henriet of Haywards Heath police said: "There are people that are prepared to cold call at the door of elderly people, use false stories about needing to check meters or appear friendly and knowledgeable about them but in fact imposters make their way into the house and steal money."
