BREAKING NEWS: House fire in Southgate

FIRE FIGHTERS rushed to a house fire after witnesses saw the owner dash back in to the flames.

The blaze was called in by a next door neighbour living in Sunningdale Court, Brighton Road, Southgate at 1.27am (July 3).

The caller reported smoke and a fire alarm sounding before telling the emergency operator that her neighbour had come outside before diving back in to the burning building.

Fire crews from Crawley used four sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel to control the ground floor kitchen fire which started in the end-of-terrace property.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said that a thorough search of the smoke logged property was carried out and that 'all persons were accounted for'.

It is unclear how many people were in the property or if they needed hospital treatment.
