FOUR more homes were burgled in the Mid Sussex area yesterday (Tuesday) following a spate of break-ins last week.
The latest incidents occurred in Paddockhall Road, Haywards Heath; Rose Cottage Lane, Staplefield; Glebe Road, Cuckfield; and Cuckfield Lane, Warninglid.
In all incidents the thieves broke in during the daytime, via rear doors, and items stolen were jewellery and cash. Police say a blue Vauxhall Astra was seen close to one of the properties that was broken into.
Detectives are appealing to people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity seen by dialling 101 or in an emergency dial 999 - particularly if they suspect a break-in is occurring.
They are also reminding people to avoid keeping large sums of cash in their homes and to review their security.
They want residents to notify police of any unexpected visitors who have called lately, strange telephone calls or leaflets delivered to homes.
Anyone with any information, sightings or knowledge of the blue Vauxhall Astra is asked to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0-800 555 111.
Last week there were three burglaries within a short space of time on Wednesday (September 12).
The first took place in London Road, Handcross, between 9.30am and 11am when cash was stolen. Then a property in Handcross Road, Staplefield, was broken into between 10.40am and 12.45pm. Cash and jewellery were taken.
And between 11.15am and 12noon another home in the same road in Staplefield was targeted, although it is believed nothing was stolen.
In all three of the burglaries the offenders forced open the back doors.
A police spokesman said: “We believe all these offences have been committed by the same person or people and would like to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen anything suspicious in these areas at the relevant times.
“This is also a timely reminder to homeowners to keep their properties secure at all times by ensuring doors, windows and gates are kept locked.
Anyone with information about the burglaries last Wednesday should contact police on 101, quoting serial number 0559 of September 12. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
