A funeral will be held today to celebrate the life of an ‘earth angel’.

Penelope Strong, of Lockhart Court, Haywards Heath, known as Penny, lost her life to breast cancer at the age of 64, on August 3.

She died peacefully at St Peter and St James Hospice with her husband Derrick and family around her.

Her sister Wendy said: “Penny was a free spirit with a keen unconventional mind which she used to great effect giving sympathetic advice to many people during her work at Holland and Barratt in the Orchards, and in her private life.

“She always used to joke she was an’ earth’ angel because earth angels are small and round and cuddly. The greatest joy of her life was her 2 year old grandson’

She was well known for her smiling face, leopard print fur coat and colourful clothes. The funeral will be held at Walstead Cemetery at 1pm today followed by a gathering at the Bent Arms. Guests should wear bright clothes. Donations to St Peter and St James Hospice care of Masters and Sons.
