Care home delighted with top CQC marks
Walstead home
A Haywards Heath care home is delighted at receiving top marks in its latest Care Quality Commission inspection.
Staff at Walstead Place Care Home near Lindfield were celebrating after receiving the results.
The inspection looks at five areas of the business - standards of treating people with respect and involving them in their care; standards of providing care, treatment and support which meets people’s needs; standards of caring for people safely and protecting them from harm; standards of staffing and standards of management.
The 19th century home in Scaynes Hill Road is part of the family-owned Caring Homes Group.
It achieved the highest possible levels of care having met all the required standards looked at by the CQC.
As part of the process, CQC inspectors spoke to residents, relatives and members of staff.
The home demonstrated full compliance in all areas with special mention made of the ‘high standards of care’ and the support provided to encourage residents’ independence.
Home manager, Jacqueline Ferguson said: “We are delighted that the hard work done each and every day by our team has been recognised through this positive report.
“We have a tightly knit staff team here and we put the service users at the heart of everything we do.
“First and foremost Walstead Place is our residents’ home. It is a pleasure to provide a service for so many wonderful people, but it is always nice to hear that you’re getting things right.”
Walstead Place provides residential care and nursing care for up to 41 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
The home is run by the family owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team , Helena and Paul Jeffery.
Improvements have been made to the CQC inspection after a five year review.
The commission looks at national standards and covers all aspects of care, including: treating people with dignity and respect, making sure food and drink meets people’s needs, making sure that the environment is clean and safe and managing and staffing services.
The staff at the home were finalists in the Care Team of the Year category at Caring Homes Delivering Excellence Awards.
