Cat travels miles under car bonnet

Dusty the cat hitched a lift under the bonnet of a car for five miles.

The owner of the broken-down Vauxhall was struggling to get the engine purring

as he had it towed from Burgess Hill back to his home in Blackthorns Hurstpierpoint.

But no sooner was the bonnet lifted than the ginger and white “moggie” sprang out unharmed and

accelerated out of sight.

Dusty’s owner appealed through the Middy this week for help in tracing the miracle surviver.

Theresa Shirley, of Maple Drive, Burgess Hill, said: “I haven’t got a clue how he got under the bonnet.

It was raining when he disappeared on Sunday and maybe he got under there for a bit of cover.

“It’s absolutely amazing he didn’t jump out at one of the many points they stopped at on the way to

Hurstpierpoint.

“The car belongs to my neighbour’s son and had been outside their home and they decided to get it owed back to Hurstpierpoint to his home.

“No sooner had they lifted the bonnet than the cat flew out.

“But we have no idea where he went and we are hoping Middy readers who see him might help.

“He’s four months old and about half and half ginger and white and we are hoping someone will spot him”.
