A STUDENT from Mid Sussex is celebrating big time after being named the winner of the Open Mic UK competition,

Talented Shak Forbes, 16, won in the national search for new young music talent with his original rap of Mac Miller’s Best Day Ever at a live final held at the O2.

Shak is a music student at Central Sussex College studying BTEC Music Composing and Performance, plus Philosophy and Politics at the college’s Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus.

He could now be on the way to real stardom after beating competition from 9,000 young musicians from across the UK.

He took first prize of a recording contract worth £30,000, and the chance to release his own single.
