The Co-Op could soon be opening a store in Junction Road, Burgess Hill.

It already has a thriving store about a mile away at the large Leylands Park estate on the north of town.

Now it is asking for new premises approval under the Licencing Act 2003 for the sale of alcohol at the site of a builders merchants yard about 50 yards from the Junction Road level crossing.

The site is allocated for housing in local pans and there have been applications for the site dating to 2004.

The application to Mid Sussex Council describes the

premises as as Co-Op, 86 Junction Road, Burgess hill.

The company wants to sell alcohol every day of the week including Sundays from 8am to 11pm.

Comments should be sent to the council by February 26.

The site is a few yards from the ruins of the former Junction Inn pub , which was wrecked by arson in 2010 and awaits development.
