Colin Preece, 54, from Quarry Close, Burgess Hill, was surprised and delighted to be made an OBE.

A former civil servant Colin has been accountant to the House of Lords for 26 years and works from a Georgian building with views across to the road to the Palace of Westminster.

He is married with two children and four grandchildren.
