Children and young people with disabilities in West Sussex could receive a free card offering discounted leisure.

West Sussex County Council is teaming up with charity Amaze on the scheme and is asking people to register their interest or get involved in the proposal’s development.

The card could offer discounts on cinema tickets, days out, sport, leisure activities across the region.

Peter Evans, WSCC’s cabinet member for children – start of life, said: “We know that families with disabled children often feel they can’t afford, or aren’t welcome, at mainstream leisure venues.

“We are committed to changing that in West Sussex. The card is a win-win situation. Families have more opportunities to access fun activities.

“Similar cards in other areas have shown that families can save more than £600 if they use the discount card regularly.”

Rachel Travers, Amaze CEO, added: “Our Compass Card in Brighton is a national model of best practice and has an excellent reputation among local families. We’re delighted to have been selected to work with West Sussex County Council to develop a similar scheme across the border.”

Work on developing the card will begin soon and it is hoped Amaze will invite people to register in the New Year ahead of a proposed launch in spring 2016.

Full details of the benefits and discounts available are yet to be finalised.
