A 95-year-old man has been seriously injured after the car he was driving collided with a road sign on the A23 at Pyecombe.

The elderly man was driving a green Toyota Starlet that appears to have spun in the carriageway as he left the A23 on to the A281 West Road, police said.

The accident happened at about 4.10pm on Wednesday (yesterday). After spinning the car then left the road and hit the large road sign.

The road was closed for three hours until 7.30pm while rescue and recovery work was carried out.

The driver, who lives locally but has not been named, was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with a suspected broken pelvis.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Stone or e-mail
