DRIVERS warned about petrol price hike

DRIVERS in Mid Sussex are being warned that petrol prices could hit an all-time high in the next few weeks.

The AA has sounded the alert.

It says that increases in the wholesale price of petrol since January are to blame for the rise in forecourt prices.

But with people already feeling the pinch in the current economic climate, the AA is now urging the Government to postpone the introduction of a planned 3p rise in petrol duty due to come into force on April 1.

The average price of unleaded petrol in Haywards Heath is currently 117p a litre - but the highest price in the area is already topping 121p a litre.

According to figures from the price comparison website PetrolPrices.com, the cheapest unleaded petrol on sale within five miles of Burgess Hill last week was Shell Birch in Haywards Heath with fuel selling at 114.9p a litre.

The other lowest-priced garages were: Chandlers Garage in Burgess Hill at 115.9p; Tesco, Burgess Hill, also at 115.9p; Baldock's of Wiveslsfied at 116.9p, with the same price being charged at Haywards Heath Service Station.

Now here at the Middy we want your help to keep our own pricewatch on what is happening with petrol prices where you are.

Write and tell us what is happening to prices at your local garage - good or bad - to Petrol Watch, the Mid Sussex Times, 7 South Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 4LE. Or email us at middy.news@sussexnewspapers.co.uk
