Extra treat for Saturday shoppers in Orchards
Shoppers in Haywards Heath’s Orchards Shopping Centre will have lots of extra choice on Saturday, March 16, when the entrepreneurs from Mid Sussex Young Enterprise hit town.
Jewellery and accessories, cards, phone cases, key rings and cookery books will be among the products on offer. Young Enterprise Companies are formed by young people in Mid Sussex schools, each having to create a real business. Students take on the roles of a typical management team; managing director, finance director, sales and marketing director and so on.
Each company has to plan the business from scratch; what products will they sell, how will they source them, how will they market them and, most importantly, how to ensure the books balance and they make a profit. Local business leaders take part, too, acting as mentors to the aspiring companies.
Warden Park is sending no fewer than five companies along, Burgess Hill School for Girls two, with one each from Imberhorne School in East Grinstead and Worth School. This will be the companies’ second foray into the real world of trading, following their successful trade fair in Burgess Hill at Christmas.
Orchards Manager, Nicola Bird, is excited about hosting the Young Enterprise businesses.
She said: “I think the whole Young Enterprise idea is brilliant and we are looking forward to welcoming them here. We’re always busy on Saturdays but I know that our shoppers will welcome the very different products on offer. Our customers, of course, are very discerning, so it will be a very good test for the marketing and sales skills of our young entrepreneurs!” ENDS
