St Catherine’s Hospice is looking for people to be volunteer support visitors.

As a volunteer you will look after a couple of clients and attend relevant supervision sessions at hospice sites in Crawley or Caterham and also in clients’ homes. Full training will be provided and there is a commitment of about 16 hours of volunteering a month, ideally some weekends and evenings.

Volunteer support visitor Carole Bennett said: “I’ve had a few friends who have been in St Catherine’s and this was a lovely way to give something back.

“I applied for the role of Volunteer Support Visitor in 2008. I wasn’t working at the time, saw the advert in the local paper and thought it would be a good charity to work for and a great way to help people who are grieving. I’ve had a few friends who have been in St Catherine’s and this was a lovely way to give something back. I went on the training course, which I found extremely interesting, and have volunteered on a part-time basis ever since. Some volunteers do this as well as a full-time job. As they can volunteer in the evenings and weekends, it can work nicely alongside full-time employment.”

The hospice is running an Open Day on Tuesday, January 29, from 2-6pm, at both its sites in Crawley and Caterham, where you can drop in at any time to find out more about these volunteering opportunities.

For more information, please call the Patient and Family Support Team on 01293 447343. Alternatively, download the Personal Profile and application form from the website at www.stch.org.uk

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, February 6.

The training course starts on April 18 and will run for 8 weeks on a Thursday morning at the Charis Centre in Crawley.
