Fund raising goes on to keep vountary groups in The Yews

Six voluntary groups which use The Yews in Haywards Heath joined the Friends of the Yews on Saturday to stage their 2012 Annual Fair, raising more than £470 towards running costs of the facilities.

The Toy Library’s ‘Trash or Treasure’ mystery stall and the MS Society’s cake stall made most money this year. The April Club, Arthritis Care, Chairobics and The Nursery Playgroup were the other four groups which took part. The Friends of The Yews sold refreshments and organised a raffle.

Elizabeth Peel, chairman of the Friends of the Yews and leader of the April Club, said: “Group fund-raising is more important than ever now because costs for the charitable groups who use The Yews had to go up when The Yews was transferred to the Community Partnership last year.

“West Sussex County Council had previously met all the running costs and no longer do so.”
