Burgess Hill mum of two Nikki Bailey, has completed the WALK100 – an epic 100K 24-hour walk to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK.
Nikki, 44, dedicated her walk to her grandfather, a WW1 veteran, and her father who died from cancer 24 years ago.
Nikki has done a series of fundraising fitness challenges but admitted the WALK100 on the weekend of June 21 and 22, was the toughest thing she had ever done.
She said: “I was in agony towards the end of the walk and can honestly say I pushed my body to its limits to complete the distance.
“I kept chanting to myself in quiet moments ‘I can do this, I will succeed’ and this, combined with the support of my fellow walkers, helped me through.”
Nikki and her team set out from London at 10am on June 21. By mid-afternoon they were trekking over the North and South Downs. They saw the sunrise at Scaynes Hill and finished in Ovingdean at the Blind Veterans’ HQ near Brighton.
