Get mad hair this March to raise funds for charity
Schools and colleges are being invited by Diabetes UK to take part in this year’s Mad March Hair Day.
Events will raise funds for the charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of those with diabetes.
Staff and pupils are being asked to wear a wacky hair-do or wig to school for a day during March.
Educational information is available for each school to explain diabetes to young people.
They can also learn more about how the money they raise can support Diabetes UK.
The charity continues to promote its Children and Young People’s Campaign, which launched in November 2012 to make more people aware of the symptoms of diabetes to ensure a speedy diagnosis. Currently 25 per cent of children and young people become life-threateningly ill before being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. If everyone knew the 4Ts: Tired, Thirsty, Toilet, Thin, the four main symptoms of the condition, Diabetes UK believes this number could be dramatically reduced.
Liz Thornton, Diabetes UK South East Fundraising Manager, said: “Mad March Hair Day is a fantastic way for schools and colleges in the South East to raise money for Diabetes UK, so that we can continue our work caring for people with diabetes, connecting them to the vital services they need and campaigning on their behalf. It’s such a simple idea and has the added benefit of teaching our children and young people about this crucial health issue. We would love to hear from schools and colleges who would like to get involved.”
