Giles Lane supporters stage demonstration

Supporters of a man from Cuckfield held on a whaling ship are hoping he will handed over to Australian officials soon.

Friend Jo Middleton, from Brighton, was one of a group who staged a demonstation outside the Japanese embassy in London yesterday calling for the release of Giles Lane, 35.

Mr Lane and a colleague from the Sea Shepherd conservation group were bound and held on board a Japanese whaler while delivering a letter on Tuesday demanding a stop to what they claim was illegal whaling.

Mr Middleton said: "We are hoping that because there has been a lot of international pressure we can get the Japanese to release them, probably to an Australian intermediary."
