Helpers sought for Oldland Mill work at Keymer
Volunteers at Oldland Mill Keymer need more help
VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help with the refurbishment of two sweeps at Oldland Mill in Keymer.
The refurbishment of the mill, dating from the 1700s, is nearing completion though it will require regular maintenance.
Two of the four sweeps have previously been brought up to standard, and the group running the mill had a good response to an appeal for helpers at the time the work was done in 2011.
250 fillerThe extra hands enabled the work to be finished more quickly than expected.
Now attention is being turned to the other two sweeps and helpers are sought who can spare time on a week day between May 13 and June 14 when the work is scheduled.
Jim Watkin of the renovation group said: “We would love to hear from anyone who can assist. They can join us for as little or as long as they want. No experience of Windmills is necessary; all the work is at ground level and all training and materials will be provided.
“They will be working with a very dedicated and friendly group of existing volunteers and might just find that they would like to join them on a more permanent basis.”
If you are able to help or want to know more, then please contact Jim Watkin at jim.watkin96@gmail.com or on 01273 842254.
